A couple identified as Mr and Mrs Francis Ekanem, lost their two children and home, in Ikot Usen, Ibiono LGA, Akwa Ibom state. According to an eyewitness, the tragedy occurred in the morning on August 1st.

The couple, reportedly bean cake (akara) traders, were outside by 2am grinding the beans needed to prepare their product later in the day. Their children were asleep in a room and a lit candle was also in the house.

Some social media users are alleging that suspected militants blocked the Benin to Lagos expressway this afternoon. Daniel Odofin, who is based in Ibadan shared these photos of a female officer of the Nigeria Police Force identified as Maryam, controlling traffic under the rain.

"We are quick to point it out when our police do something wrong," Odofin wrote. Today I saw a police woman in the rain, drenched and still doing her duty. Actively doing her job, despite the rain. Not running for shelter even though no one would blame her if she did. This is the kind of person that lifts the image of the Nigerian Police Force.

The price of tomato has crashed from N25,000 to N800 a basket. Few months ago, the price of the essential commodity skyrocketed following the spread of tuta absoluta also known as ‘tomato ebola’ in most of the states that plant and harvest Tomatoes in large quantities. As of this morning, a basket of Tomato in Kaduna sold for as low as N800.
